Chase has always been a quiet child, preferring the digital to the analog. He'd spend most of his time on his gaming consoles and computer, but that's only because those were his passions. As such, that's also where he made friends and socialized.

Chase really only has a vague idea of his looks. Others have said his nose is a little too big, lips a bit too full and eyes a bit too small for a child his age. But he doesn't mind, and it's shelved along with his short, close cropped hair at the back of his mind.

He can confidently say his parents love him. At least, by way of always providing a little bit more than what think he needs. Gaming consoles, a computer, his own room this young, you name it. Sadly, to earn as much they were required to work overseas, both of them. There are times when it's just his father, and other times when it's just his mother, but those were the times when he'd pull away from the computer and focus on the somewhat transient people in his life that he truly cared about.

Alas, such moments grew less frequent as time went buy, and he only ever interacted with his uncle or some guardian or other who checked up on him. At least, that's what it felt to him. He was taken care of, but these other people didn't feel like family. They were nice, and even approachable, but he just didn't feel anything for them as much.

It also didn't help that his life was upheaved from his birth country of the Philippines to his parents settling somewhere in South East England, specifically in Devon. The politics were getting rough in his home country, and his parents felt that moving to this part of the world would be safer for the family in the long run. That didn't stop them from being somewhat absent in Chase's life, though.

The move affected him since he was reluctant to leave the few close friends he had come to enjoy back at home. This led him to focus more on building relationships online, instead, as a safety net.

He actively searched for communities online rather than form close bonds with his fellow students. One might say he's precocious mentally, and maybe even a little more mature than his peers in certain respects such as friendship, in giving advice, and solving problems. Not that he's overly intelligent or knows many facts. It's more that he follows the general process of empowering someone else, and emphasizing a view from a person outside looking in. He can definitely hold a conversation once the ball has been rolling, but he wasn't really that adept at starting them.

Still, the world online and outside have their own stark differences. Thus, he's a bit more guarded outside of his domain. It's not the same when you can say what you want anonymously than it is face-to-face. The irony here is that he likes to believe he's made genuine connections with people even though the reality is not quite as clear, so in this respect he's woefully naive. Not everyone has the best of intentions, after all.

There was some confusion when got his letter because surely he didn't feel magical. But that was when he remembered some odd moments in his life, mostly with regards to his gadgets. He'd remember them turning on suddenly even though he didn't press the power button. That, and it sometimes died on him for no reason, too! It was one of his pet peeves actually, and now he's worried that whatever it he is, wizard or not, will get in the way of his continuing to stay online!
