As a small child, Derek didnt have many friends, and was bullied quite often by the kids at his home town. One particular moment that he remembers is when he got kicked to the ground next to his towns swing set.
Derek is typically introverted, deep down he wants to make friends and explore the world and talk to people, but hes scared of what the world will think because of his past. Once you break past his shell, you will find that he is a funny, caring, and over-all nice guy. Derek used to struggle at daycare because of his ADHD, and later to be discovered insomnia.
Derek had been around magic his entire life, his parents were magical, and quite a lot of his immediate family as well. The first time he used magic and started to figure out what he could do was at about 5. Derek was sitting in front of his fireplace, reading a book, it was a quite cold evening, he kept running through his head "I wish we had a fire." As he was reading, he was frightened by the fireplace spontaneously lighting, nobody else was in the room. He decided he was the one who lit the flame.
Derek finally received his Hogwarts Acceptance Letter at 11. His parents had been wondering when it would arrive. Quite frankly, he was relieved to get his letter, so he could get away from all the bullies and sadness of the muggle world. He is very excited to go to Hogwarts and become a powerful wizard like he sees in the movies and books.
