Val Elford
Status:
Wizard born
Nationality:
English
Residence:
Surrey, England
Function:
First year, Slytherin
Wand:
25,2 cm chestnut wood and phoenix feather
Appearance: Val has taupe colored hair and dim green eyes. His skin is pale and his face is usually seen in a serious manner. Clothing wise he is very casual, often wearing hoodies and sweaters or anything comfortable. He avoids any kind of dress shoes, suits, dress pants, etc etc unless absolutely necessary as comfort is his top priority.

Personality: Val is a really quiet person, and refrains from starting a conversation with others first. He keeps to himself and from past teachings is 100% sure to keep emotional barriers towards anyone around him. Despite this, he longs to make a friend, but is afraid that befriending someone now will end up as badly as it did in the past. He’s quite aggressive and tends to get enraged very quickly, that is when he’s actually interacting with others. He lacks basic empathy that others expect from one another, and is quick to insult those around him, whether he cares about them or not. Despite the seemingly shit ton of negatives, some positives are present. He’s extremely loyal to those who make the (incredibly difficult) effort to get to know him and become close, but often gets jealous easily as well. He hates studying but is naturally gifted with his brains, having tremendous creativity to keep away his boredom and is overall a quick learner. However, his brains aren’t as great. He prefers to ‘fight’ people with his brains, but if physical combat is necessary he is likely to find a position far away from his opponent and cast spells from there. Val is quite mature for his age due to the environment he grew up in, and is able to get along with people older than him easily.

History: The Elfords of Surrey are a well known noble family. Growing up in an environment surrounded by family politics, strict mannerisms, neglectful parents and distant siblings left no room for a normal, fun kids life for Val. He had one older brother (Hunter) who is soon to be married off and when his parents had him they so desperately prayed for a girl to wed off as well, but were fairly disappointed. This is just one of the reasons his parents never gave him the proper attention he needed. As a child, Val attended a higher class muggle school, full of snobby children and strict teachers, and was thus unable to get along with anyone there or make childhood friends. His parents were too busy to pick him up from school and his brother didn’t care much for him, so even as a young boy everyday he would have to walk home from school himself. However, this wasn’t completely bad, as this is what helped him meet Theo, a young boy living in the poorer areas. This was Val’s first friend. Since his parents and Hunter weren’t home, him and Theo would hang out in his room everyday for an hour, and he would then walk Theo back to his home to say bye. Their friendship started when they were 7, but soon a 2 month old friendship ended up becoming a 2 year old friendship, and Theo and Val were both 9 and closer then ever, and had not once been caught by Val’s parents. Val felt incredibly close to Theo, he could feel his days getting brighter and his nights more peaceful. Theo made him happy, more happy than his family ever did. But good things never last, and this certainly didn’t. It was a normal afternoon after school and Val and Theo were sitting on Val’s bed, drawing portraits of each other. But for most of the time, Val simply got lost taking in Theo’s features and ended up giving up on completing his drawing of him, while Theo worked hard on his, finally showing Val the drawing, which was crazy similar looking to Val. (in a kids eyes) Val had admitted to him that he couldn’t properly draw Theo, or in his words he was ‘too handsome to be put onto paper’ resulting in both of them in laughing fits. As they sat next to each other and talk their pinky’s presses together and they soon ended up holding hands, while continuing their conversation and pretending their heart rates were totally normal. Val was young and didn’t quite understand his feelings for his friend, but he had often heard his parents make fun of apparently disabled people that hey would call ‘fags.’ When he once asked who these people were they informed them that they were sick boys and girls who liked the same gender. Was he sick, then? It was apparent to Theo that Val had frowningly dazed off in thought while Theo was talking to him, and worriedly he gripped his hand tighter, which had definitely brought Val’s attention back.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t want my parents to think I’m sick..”
“You’re not sick! We’re just... close, right?”
Looking at Theo’s goofy smile definitely helped calm his paranoia down as he smiled back, hugging Theo. “Then if we’re close... this is okay right?”
Val mumbled, bringing his face closer to Theo, whilst not breaking their hug. “Yeah! It’s okay, Val” Theo smiled. But before their innocent love could be enjoyed, Val’s room door burst open, and the two were immediately greeted by a loud shriek from his mother. “You. You DISGUSTING child! With a boy... a muggle.. a peasant!”
His mother grabbed Val by the hand and pulled him away from Theo.
His father, Edward, then ran up the stairs from hearing all the screaming and narrowed his eyes at Val. He understood what had happened. “Who knows what Val has told him about our world..” His mother, Sylvia, nodded towards Edward’s jacket as he whipped out his wand, staring Val dead in the eye.”You are no son of mine.”Val teared up before screaming at Theo to run, as he attempted to break the window to no avail before Sylvia grabbed him by his collar as Edward pointed his wand at him. “Val, what are they doing!?” He yelled in fear as Val screamed in desperation. “Please, father! Don’t do this! I didn’t tell him anything! It’s MY fault not his!”
“Obliviate.”
And with that, Theo passed out and was carried roughly away by Sylvia, leaving Val sobbing on the floor. “I hope you know this is your fault.. queer.” The next day, walking back from school, Val ran into Theo on the streets, tearing up. “Hi..” he whispered as Theo goofily smiled, oblivious to everything.”Hey, I haven’t seen you around! What’s your name? I’m Theo!” Val lowered his eyes before shoving Theo to the side, running home. He was useless, he couldn’t help his best friend, and now he had no one. He was alone, and even if he tried to change that, he’d end up hurting those around him. Val and his family hardly ever talked after that. They pulled him out of school, afraid that there were too many boys around him. Val hardly understood why he was being punished, but he dare not question them. He would hide himself in his room all day, hardly eating. At 10, Val hated his parents more than anything. His brother was free enough, as he married a girl of another Noble house and his role in the family had been fulfilled. But Val? Val was stuck in the Elford mansion, a living hell. Until one faithful day at 11 years old, when a letter came, and he could finally get away from his family.

Magic: As a pureblood, Val was raised around magic in his family, his father was especially an expert at spell casting, However, his family was far too busy and distracted in their own affairs to properly teach him, so while he knew he was capable of using magic, he never bothered trying to properly teach himself as he isn’t the most self-disciplined person. However, after receiving his letter Val was desperate to get out of his home and in an act of anger (his mother refused to let him go to Hogwarts) he lashed out and attempted to use a spell but failed as he had no wand, just a stick. However, that same night Val stole his fathers wand and cast Finestra on his bedroom window, leaving his fathers wand and quickly escaping to Hogwarts.
