Neasa was born on October 6th to Maedoc and Elsbeth Quinn in Newcastle, Ireland. She has gorgeous, silky blonde hair and crystal blue eyes. Her skin is fair and her eyebrows strong. Neasa is determined and intelligent. She knows what she wants and will do anything to get it. While usually a collected and rational person, the Irish lass does have a rebellious flair to her. Neasa, not unlike the rest of her family, showed signs of magical ability early in life. The first signs came when she was seven. Her mother would play loud classical music throughout the home while she cleaned. Neasa never said anything about it, but she secretly hated the rubbish tunes. One day she just couldn't bear to listen to the racket any longer and wished for silence. To her surprise, her wish was granted. The music, of course, was turned back on, her mother unaware of what caused the music to go off in the first place. Several days went by with the on and off again of the music. It eventually clicked in Neasa's mind that she may be the one controlling the sudden stoppage of her mother's music. When the young girl finally told her parents what she had been doing, they were thrilled. Her mother was alas a bit annoyed that she had been fighting her own daughter over the music for days, but thrilled none the less. Having magical abilities in the Quinn family is a must. A squib will not be tolerated. Neasa is fairly certain that she has a distant cousin who is a squib, but she's never met them and nobody in the family dares discuss the matter.
The Quinn's come from a long line of pureblood Irish wizards. Neasa and her family are well off in terms of money. Her father, Madoc, works for the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. As for her mother, Elsbeth, she spends her days as a well known writer for an Irish magazine. Of course, the Quinn's have enough inherited money that the paychecks they bring home each week are more like a bonus.
Neasa is the youngest of two siblings. Before their time at Hogwarts begins, the Quinn children are enrolled in an exceptional magical preparatory school, the best in all of Ireland. The school is for children of wizarding families who are too young to attend Hogwarts. There, the children are taught reading, mathematics, writing, and any essential non-magical subjects. Neasa tolerated the school, but she didn't always get along with her peers. She once got sent home for fist fighting with another girl. Her older brother fared a bit better in the school.
Each Quinn child is brought up to be a proud force to be reckoned with and to bring honor to the family name. Hundreds of years have gone by this way. It is family tradition that the eldest child be raised to take on the role of the head of household. However, her older brother, Caolan, is currently unable to be prepared for that role. Two years ago, the eldest Quinn child fell ill. It started out as a simple cough, but slowly progressed into something much worse. Neasa and her brother are very close. She can still remember how his coughing turned into heaving and how blood would drip from his mouth after his fits. She remembers how each day his skin grew paler and his eyes duller. She remembers how breathing slowly became more and more difficult for him. The now fourteen year-old Caolan is bedridden and unable to continue his time at Hogwarts. Neasa has not taken her brother's illness well. Her family refuses to tell her what's wrong with him. She isn't sure if it's because they truly don't want her to know the dire state of her brother's condition, or that they don't even know themselves.
She loves her brother dearly, but since his downfall, her parents have began to look to Neasa to train in her brother's place. Her parents aren't bad people, they just cling too closely to tradition. The Quinn's cannot show weakness. They've got to be this picture perfect family no matter what tragedy strikes them. It doesn't matter how you feel, only how you look. This has put much stress on the eleven year-old. Neasa has found herself building up walls and pushing people away. Her rebellious streak is getting stronger. She wants to choose her own fate and play by her own rules. Neasa is a bright girl, but she still doesn't fully understand why everyone refuses to talk about her brother or why she can't go to the park without getting stares from nosy onlookers. Now as she enters into her first year at Hogwarts, Neasa hopes to make a statement for herself and to uncover the secrets that her family has been keeping from her.
