Romulus was born in Buckinghamshire to an English mother and Japanese father. They divorced when Romulus was three, which led his father to return to Tokyo. However, thanks to the Internet and the relative ease of travel he has maintained a good relationship with both of his parents throughout his upbringing.

His mother's ancestry is primarily English and French, with a small input of Catalan. Her magical connection is through the French side. His father is wholly Japanese so far as he knows, with his grandfather being a muggle-born wizard.

He is mixed-race (Asian/White), with short dark brown hair, dark green eyes and a small physique. He is built for stamina, not speed or strength.

His upbringing in Buckingham was fairly standard and boring, and he never struggled academically. He did, however, on the social scene. Making friends did come easily to him, preferring to stay cooped up in his grandmother's home, nuzzling a cup of tea or a book or something similar.

His magical abilities surfaced as a toddler when his mother noticed that the cat-flap would mysteriously slam open and shut if he was having a tantrum. The fur of his cat, Shiro, would change state according to his mood - if he was angry, it would seem to heat up and glow red. If he was sad, the poor cat would suddenly appear very damp. As he got older and calmer this faded, yet the cat still runs in fear should he ever shed a tear.

He also bonds quite easily with animals, particularly felines - he has a rather ferocious fluffy white Persian called Shiro, but for now she has to remain at his grandmother's home.

He is slow to anger, and maintains a calm disposition. He is inquisitive, and seeks to make friends. He is a skilled linguist, speaking not only his native Japanese and English, but also his ancestral French to an intermediate level. Sometimes he struggles to articulate what he means, using long-winded sentences and rather flowery language for seemingly otherwise succinct expressions.
