A night in the muggle world, ripe with the bitter winds of a blizzard, marked the beginning of a new hope for one unlucky family. Jack and Caroline North, two wizards of low economic status, gave birth to a baby girl. They named her, and as they wrapped her in a blanket--holding her close with stirring hearts, they felt as though a second chance for their family had been achieved. At last, the Norths could move on from their rotten lot in life and become respectable members of society once again--just as they had been before the closure of their family business.

Two years prior to Madelyn's birth, the Norths had owned a bakery in Cambridge. People would flock in and out of the store, buying cakes and various other delicacies on a routine basis, but the arrival of a well-known critic signaled the inevitable downfall of the bakery. Publishing a rotten review of the goods they purchased, the critic turned public opinion against the Norths, and damaged their reputation--leading to a hard decrease in overall sales.

This decrease in revenue led to an inability to keep the lights on, and the bakery was ultimately closed, leaving the family in poverty. Madelyn's birth, two years later, was seen as a sign to Jack and Caroline. A sign that it was time to get back in the saddle. Though they considered letting her maternal grandmother raise her while they rebuilt what they once had, the Norths ultimately decided against this and stayed together as a close-knit family unit.

Eleven years later, they finally found themselves back on the map. Their bakery was open for business once again--having been missed by many of their more loyal customers. With a decade between the closure and the reopening of the bakery, the Norths didn't find themselves weighed down by their past as much as they thought they would be. Madelyn, while attending a muggle school, found a place for herself that was not defined by her parents' history.

Her magic was first shown off while she was helping her father take out the garbage. Eager to get back inside and hang out with her muggle friend, Madelyn tossed the bag into the air and unintentionally made it levitate for several seconds before losing focus and dropping it down on top of her father's head. That night, Jack and Caroline explained to their daughter that she was, in fact, a witch. They introduced her to the world of magic, and a few months later, Madelyn received her acceptance letter to Hogwarts.

Known for her witty sense of humor, and relatively friendly demeanor, Madelyn North is your average eleven-year-old girl who happens to have a distinguishable love of baking. She finds enjoyment in hanging out with close friends, and though both of her parents want her to be sorted into Gryffindor, Madelyn does not necessarily have a preferred House.

She is easily identified by her dirty-brown hair, blue eyes, pale skin and bucked teeth. Madelyn keeps her bangs long in the front, occasionally drooping over her eyes, and she bears a small assortment of freckles around her cheekbones. One might also take notice of a scar running across her elbow--a glaring reminder of the first time she ever tried to ride a bike.
