Lilac Dune was a somewhat atypical girl of eleven years; she was rather small for her age; boney too, but her face was roundish with blonde hair, her hazelnut eyes were warm and soft to look at as if it was the calming ocean waves, as was her gaze. Her smile was bright and bubbly, and yet gentle at the same time.

Lilac grew up on the island Inis Mór just west of mainland ireland and was therefore home-schooled by her Mother Sandra Dune, her father was a mystery. The people of Inis consider Lilac to be a strange little girl and despite living on the island almost since birth; Both Lilac and her Mother were still considered newcomers. Inis country folk also had firm traditional beliefs of how a lady should convey herself in public, and to the islands inhabitans Lilac was nothing of a lady, always running around in a dress and boots covered in mud from that farm of Mr Fisher’s; another newcomer of almost 30 odd years. Worst still was the way she would venture into town every summer straight off the farm, talking to the tourists, laughing and carrying on wanting to know all about their travels. The island folk did not conduct themselves in such a way, they were a quite sort of people, polite to strangers but never the chatty kind. To the islanders, Lilac Dune was nothing of a lady, but that was just the beginning of her strange behaviour.

When Lilac was eight and a half she was playing with a group of local children, rain clouds rolled in suddenly off the coast, as the rain begain to pour down in a thundery storm the group of children ran for cover, but not a drop of rain touched Lilac head. People stared at Lilac for weeks, her mother Sandra thought nothing of it, and for a while, the township did move forward from that strange day, until two months later another unusual occurance. Mrs Abbleforth cat Miss Daisy somehow floated down from a tree, the cat had been stuck in the tree for the past two hours before that. Nobody said anything from shock, but everyone certainly looked towards Lilac. But all the strange looks the township gave Lilac never seemed to bother her, she was too busy being Lilac.

And then came the Hogwarts letter…………………….
