Lyra spent her entire early childhood in the Scottish highlands with her parents and three siblings. Although the city Inverness was fairly close, Lyra and the rest of her family rarely ventured there, spending most of their time on their small farm. Lyra began showing signs of magical abilities as early as four months old, when her parents noticed she was using magic to bring small, light objects close enough for her little hands to grasp because she could not yet crawl. This surprised her parents, as her brother before her had not shown any magical ability until well into his second year of life. Although her parents always had plenty of gold, they preferred to live a simple life and taught their children the importance of hard work to reach their goals in life. Lyra’s older brother Logan and young sister Evelyn seemed content with the simple life that they led. Logan was always happy to return home from Hogwarts during the holidays, and seemed to fall back into life on the farm very easily. Lyra, on the other hand, always felt like there was something missing in her life and longed for more. She wanted to do great things in school and get a job where she could make a difference in the world, a job that allowed her to see more than her little part of Scotland. Even as a young child, Lyra would wander away from home to explore the wilderness around their home, climbing trees, wading in the shallow streams, and getting acquainted with as much of the wildlife and magical creatures as she could. After Lyra’s mother died in a spell attempt gone wrong, things changed. Their father no longer allowed Lyra free reign of the surrounding countryside, he became ever more worried about the safety of his children, and rarely let them out of his sight. Lyra was mostly confined to the workings of the home and the farm after that point, except for the times she would sneak out of her second story window in the dark of the night to see what mischief she could get herself into. By the time Logan was ready to head for Hogwarts and needed to go to London for supplies, Lyra was so ready for the trip, and was totally enamored with the sight of the bustling Diagon Alley. Two years later, she knew she would be heading off to Hogwarts herself, and her entire life would be changed.
Lyra’s isolation and lack of many relationships outside of her family left Lyra with slightly awkward social skills. She loves talking to people and is very friendly, but finds that she can be blunt and possibly too outgoing, often saying the exact wrong thing in various situations. Although Lyra is very pretty, she doesn’t seem to notice, and does not discriminate in her affections, getting along fine with just about anyone who isn’t too put off by her abrupt nature. Lyra is easily excitable, getting flustered, fidgety and exceptionally talkative whenever experiencing something new. Lyra is also very smart, having spent a good deal of her time reading any books she could get her hands on in the house and whatever she could coax her father into buying her during their last two trips to Diagon Alley with her brother. Lyra is also very kind, caring, fiercely protective of her family. Her lack of interaction with many people from the outside world also came with the unfortunate consequence of Lyra being very gullible and naïve when it comes to people. She tends to see the good in people, even where no one else might, even the person themselves. She is quite possibly too trusting, and too willing to grant forgiveness for every transgression.
Lyra has a petite but muscular figure from both her work on the farm and gallivanting through the wilderness in the dark of night. She is tall for her age, with long arms that help her climb, but her petite form helps her to work her way into small spaces. Along with long legs and arms, Lyra has a tall and slender neck. She is also a very fast runner with high endurance. Her nose is small and thin, and her jawline is angular and feminine. She has very long, curly dark red hair that is very typical of families who have lived in Scotland for generations. She also has a scattering of freckles covering her face and deep, dark blue eyes.
