Mitzi, also known as Mitzi Vance Waddell, is a young girl who's often thought of as very patient, loving, and humble for her age. Living in a small village called Montacute, England, most people stuck to themselves and lived quiet lives. Mitzi, though, grew up lost in her story books, her heart thirsting for adventure and experience.

Mitzi is the youngest child in her family of five. She has two older twin brothers, Gerald and David, who are both fifth years at Hogwarts. They all live with their parents, William and Jazmine, during the holidays but during the rest of the year their in school. Her mother's side of the family comes from a line of Purebloods known as the Elders, but she broke away. Everyone looks relatively alike, with their light brown skin, curly brown hair, and dark eyes. While her brothers were at Hogwarts Mitzi attended a muggle academy from kindergarten to fifth grade, but left on notice that she was being homeschooled in another country.

During the winter of third grade, Mitzi's magic surfaced during the science fair, when she testing the effects of chlorine water on different substances, like skin, food, and hair. For the project she decided to bring a kiddie pool and have her cousin sit in it to see the effect on his legs. Well for a long time nothing happened, which was a good sign, but a pair of boys who liked to make fun of her quiet persona started teasing her about how her project could go wrong. In worry she began imagining strongly her cousin's skin erupting in boils and bad rashes and in horror it came true, although it didn't seem to harm him.

While the kids laughed and the adults rushed to pull him and call the ambulance, Mitzi's father hurriedly took a towel when no one was looking and rubbed him down, and all symptoms disappeared. Everyone marveled at the miracle but her father warned her that she had to be more careful now, since she had just begun her journey as a witch.
