Bethan Gough
Status:
Muggle-born
Nationality:
Welsh
Residence:
Cardiff, Wales
Function:
First year, Gryffindor
Wand:
30,3 cm fir wood and dragon heartstring
Appearance: Tall for her age, Bethan stands at five feet even. Her body is lanky and awkward, both a sign of a recent growth spurt and a warning for more yet to come. Her red hair is thick and straight and stops right around her heart; it tangles easily making brushing it in the morning an Olympian-level feat. Her skin has a ruddy tone and is covered in a smattering of freckles.

Personality: The first thing one would notice about Bethan would be her short temper. She is easily set off by other people, and it's hard for her to control her anger once she's all fired up. She's quick to butt heads and get into arguments, and her stubborn character refuses to let her back down from a challenge. She's very blunt and honest with her words, telling it how she sees it, which can be a either a refreshing trait or an obnoxious one, depending on the person. She's bold and daring, with an independent streak and a dislike for rules and constraints.

Brief History: Bethan Gough lived a modest life in a small house in Cardiff, Wales. She was the daughter of Floyd and Treva Gough, and grew up as the youngest of six siblings. She never much liked being the baby of the bunch, as that position opened way to bullying from her older siblings. Her rivalry with her brother Trefor (her elder by two years) was a particularly egregious example of this, as the two children constantly got on each others' nerves all the time. Her parents took notice of this, but did nothing more than lightly scold the children, not helping at all.
Her first magic surfaced very recently at eleven years old. Trefor had decided to be especially annoying that day, and Bethan had had enough. Letting out a yell in frustration, she slammed her hands on the kitchen table... which then broke into two and collapsed. Both children were shocked at first, but the incident was quickly followed with a "I'm telling Mom!", thus alerting the Goughs to their daughter's magical abilities.
Muggles though they were, Floyd and Treva were no strangers to the wizarding world. Their eldest child Seren had turned out to be capable of magic herself, so they were surprised only because there were now two witches within the family instead of one. They also saw a Hogwarts education as a good thing: Bethan was ill-tempered and had trouble at home, and Seren had talked about how wonderful her school years were. They was seen as an opportunity for growth for their young daughter, and were pleased when the Bethan's acceptance letter soon arrived.
Bethan, on the other hand, was less than thrilled with this outcome of events. She didn't want to go to Hogwarts because she didn't want to go to some "stupid private school". Seren visited the house to congratulate her on finding her magic and tell her it wouldn't be so bad. Her assurances helped ease Bethan's worries somewhat, as Seren had always been the nicest to her and her favorite sibling, though she never saw her much. Still somewhat reluctant to go, Bethan packed her things and was rather unceremoniously dropped off at Platform 9 3/4.
