One of Simon's distinct features is his freckles, which are speckled on his skin that only a Weasley could beat. His red hair is akin to a Weasley's as well, but the similarities stop there, with his darker skin and brown eyes.

Simon's parents had come from a loving family; his mother a doctor, father a scientist. They believed in science and knowledge. The mere idea of even believing and relying on a 'great and powerful being' was unthinkable to them. However, many generations before, a muggle met a wizard. A pureblood wizard. The two ran off, causing distress in the wizard's family, causing them to cast the wizard out. Simon's magic surfaced in small ways; things 'falling' off high counters, the doors never being locked for him, and even having his books turn to the correct page, almost magically. One day, it evolved past this; Simon had dropped a plate of cake, but instead of crashing to the floor in a pile of glass, the plate only hovered there. He could only stare, and his mother walked in, staring, dumbfounded. It wasn't until Simon's father walked in that they thawed out of their trance. His parents immediately started researching but stopped once a professor from Hogwarts had come to explain, leaving his parents scratching their heads, reluctantly letting Simon go to the school. Turns out, one of Simon's parents' longtime friends was a wizard, who helped Simon and his family find the necessary equipment for Hogwarts.
