Physical description: Alkaíos has a tall, brooding figure. His broad shoulders make him a great swimmer, and even though he’s not much bigger than other guys his age, he’s definitely imposing. His presence brings a certain unnamable unease into any place he steps into. He carries himself with confidence but isn’t too tense – he’s relaxed.
His hair sits in an unruly afro on his head. Despite his mother’s insistence that he shave it, he doesn’t comply and keeps it as it is. He has thin, upturned brown eyes, with brows set in a way that can make them look constantly furrowed – maybe they are, or maybe that’s just how they look when he’s relaxed. He has a straight, Greek-like nose and full lips. His cheekbones are defined, dotted with a couple of small moles along them.
He wears simple casual clothes, often oversized but still well-cut. For example, a shirt tailored for his dad and way too big for him, but still sewn well, with a denim jacket layered over it and some colored jeans or sweats is his go-to outfit. He has a good eye for shapes, so even though his fashion choices might be mismatched, they still look effortlessly chic.
Mental description: Alkaíos is not the most talkative, but he still somehow has a way of making his ideologies very clear. He has a clear, sensible mind and strong opinions; everything he does is supposed to be in line with his morals. He thinks a lot, and he likes to discuss all kinds of topics because he is always very interested in discovering new things.
His biggest strength is his independence. He has always been used to being alone, and that doesn't really bother him. In fact, he enjoys the challenges it gives him because then he can use his brain to find new and creative ways of solving them. He avoids people because he has a superiority complex, where he thinks he is just a little better than everyone else and that kids his age don't want to be friends with him not because he’s cold, but because he’s smarter than them.
His biggest weakness is his high standards. He is quite a perfectionist; he learned it from his parents, and so not many people can ever be good enough for his standards. This results in him being frustrated with everyone around him and not trusting anyone else with important tasks other than himself.
Overall, he is polite and extroverted, but close-minded, and doesn’t let people into his inner world easily.
Biography: Alkaíos Drakos was born in Kardamyli, Greece, the son of Nikolaos and Mary Drakos, and the younger sibling of three older brothers and two older sisters, in order of age: Julius, Iáson, Irênê, Adonis, and Thaleia. Alkaíos’ childhood was full of wonder and exploration. The family lived where the mountains met the sea. The kids would spend the whole day outside, whether in their garden or by the water. Their father was a painter, and their mother worked from home. Their life was full of magic, as their painter father taught them to see it everywhere.
But when his mother Mary, an immigrant from England, received news that her own mother was sick, six-year-old Alkaíos was forced to move with his family from Kardamyli to Bath, England, where Mary would take care of her. Soon her mother passed away, but to the Drakos’ surprise she had left them as the sole inheritors of her hotel business in her will. It was a small, family-run hotel, and they were unsuccessful in finding anyone willing to buy it. Since Mary wasn’t working and Nikolaos was lacking inspiration for his art, which had earned him a bunch of not-so-happy envelopes from Greece, they decided to take on the hotel business.
Alkaíos helped his parents in the business as much as he could and met all kinds of interesting people. Ever since childhood he had been interested in music and had started learning to play the saxophone back in Greece. As he grew up and improved, getting more and more interested in jazz, he gathered a band and started playing live music by the hotel. He also always carried a handheld audio recorder, which he used not only to compose his amateur songs but also to listen back to guests’ conversations it happened to catch. He listened to it when he was bored and would find out some interesting things.
He knew that his father was a wizard and that all his older siblings had gone to Castelobruxo before they moved to England, and they had to transfer to Hogwarts. Magic was part of his everyday life – not at the hotel, but whenever he visited his father in the art room, he would always learn something new about the wizarding world.
His invitation to Hogwarts wasn’t a surprise to anybody, though he was hesitant to leave because he liked helping out at the hotel and studying at home in the evenings. But to his parents, it wasn’t up for debate, so he had to attend.
First instance of magic: Alkaíos’ first experience of magic occurred when he was six years old. While he was riding in his mother’s car and feeling very sad, he looked out of the window. Suddenly, to his surprise, the clouds outside began forming intricate shapes and figures. Fascinated, he watched them, and his mood lifted a little.
