Physical Description: Damon was a fair-skinned child and, after many years of ignoring the fact that he burns easily, now has a healthy tan from spending the majority of his life out in the sun, and a light dusting of freckles across his nose. While he is a rangy boy, his features give him a naturally striking, boyish appearance, which is complimented by his brown hair that is surprisingly neat in its parting for a boy of his character. He has this carefree, youthful charm about him when he smiles, but a mischievous glint in his piercing blue eyes that suggests he’s thinking of doing something that’s a little less than legal.

Mental Description: Damon is a ray of sunshine mixed with a little hurricane.

He is energetic, charismatic, and insurmountably curious with the uncanny talent to turn every mundane situation into a chaotic adventure. He is naturally friendly, so brave to the point of being reckless and has a mouth that often gets him into more trouble than it can get himself out of. He has a mischievous streak and sticky fingers. He also particular fondness for cards and acquired the skill sleight of hand.

Damon can come off as selfish due to his thieving nature, but he is not inherently cruel. He has a surprisingly big heart beneath his troublesome exterior. He is fiercely loyal and protective of those who are close to him, even if his attempts to help only create entirely new problems. Even if he struggles with patience, authority, controlling his impulses, and moral consequences.

Biography: Damon Delaney grew up in the small town of Le Claire in Iowa. His parents, Aiden Delaney and Camilla Dufresne, married young after Camilla fell pregnant. Aiden was an inconsistent provider who loved Damon deeply, while Camilla was constantly frustrated by Damon’s restless, unruly nature. Their relationship quickly deteriorated as Camilla, the muggle, discovered Aiden's magical nature and expressed anti-magic worldviews.

Damon spent the majority of his childhood exploring the great outdoors and getting himself into trouble. Growing up with little, Damon began stealing wen he was six. Toys, food, small amounts of money. Gradually, he started to enjoy it beyond simply wanting something he could not have. He enjoyed the thrill of getting away with it. His father repeatedly tried to teach him right from wrong, but Damon struggled to understand consequences and morality.

Damon spent much of his early childhood isolated from other children due to his thieving nature, which made him untrustworthy. Then he befriended Micah Rowe, an older boy. The two became inseparable, bonding over their shared love of exploration and mischief. Micah taught Damon sleight of hand and card tricks, which quickly became another obsession of his. Unfortunately, Micah also encouraged Damon’s criminal tendencies, and they began working together to con people. Their antics eventually went too far, and the consequences caught up with them. Micah was seriously injured, forcing Damon to confront the reality of consequences.

Not long afterward, Camilla left the family and filed for divorce, leaving Aiden to raise Damon alone. Hoping to give his son a fresh start, Aiden got in contact with Irish relatives for help and moved with Damon to Ireland. Damon was nine and he and Micah never spoke again. He was also incapable of leaving his old habits behind, especially when his new environment integrated him into the magical world. Despite his repeated mistakes and his father’s frustration, Aiden never stopped loving him. When Damon eventually received his Hogwarts acceptance letter, Aiden was immensely proud of him, while also having some understandable concerns about what exactly Hogwarts was getting itself into.

First Instance of Magic: Within the first week of living in Ireland, Damon had already less than legally acquired a wallet. In his defence, the man made it stupidly easy. Too easy, in fact. The Irish were an interesting breed, allowing for their wallets stick halfway out their back pockets for the whole world to see.

Damon saw it. Damon wanted it. Damon took it.

The entire process took less than three seconds, and he was halfway down the street before the man finally noticed.

“Oi!”

Damon glanced over his shoulder to see the man running after him. A balding man with a big pot belly, surprisingly speedy for someone with such a physique.

“Ah, shi-” Damon bolted.

He tore through the street clutching the wallet tightly in his hand, laughing the entire time despite himself. His shoes slapped rapidly against the pavement as he weaved between people, ducked under outstretched arms, and glanced back occasionally to see if the man was still chasing after him. He was.

“Give that back!”

“Come and get it!”

Damon grinned. That was the problem with being nine years old. He was very clever, far more clever than anyone ever gave him credit for. Because he was so incredibly stupid at the same time.

In Iowa, Damon knew every twist of every road, every shortcut, every hiding place. When he’d get chased by someone he pickpocketed, they were severely disadvantaged, not only by the fact that they were the only one between them that had something to lose. But because they were in Damon’s playground. In Ireland, he didn't have the time to get accustomed to any of the streets before his impulses took the wheel again.

Damon was well ahead of the man when he cut down a narrow path without looking at where it led. The ground disappeared beneath him. And he screamed, stomach lurching as he dropped over the edge. There wasn’t any time to grab anything- there wasn’t anything to grab. He just flailed in the open air as he quickly descended towards the ground.

Then something in him snapped. Not painfully. More like a sudden pressure behind his ribs that made him forget how to breathe for a second. The air had caught him, his fall had slowed, then stopped, suspended a foot above the ground, strung up by nothing. The magic released him half a moment later and he landed on a hard patch of grass on stiff legs. His arms remained spread uselessly at his sides and, for a long moment, he couldn’t even think.

Once regaining sentience, he immediately checked to make sure the wallet was still there- it was, every card and coin intact. Excellent.

“What a thrill!” His grin only widened as he ran off triumphantly before the man could catch up.

Three days later, Damon tried to recreate the phenomenon by leaping off the roof of his house. Aiden caught him barely five seconds after he jumped. The result was a broken clavicle, a grinning young boy, and a very unimpressed father.
