Backstory:
After struggling for years with fertility issues, Milly and Tom finally welcomed their rainbow baby pride and joy Theadora Carter into the world on July 29th 2015. Named after her great grandmother, Thea quickly grew into a sharp young girl who knew exactly what she wanted.
By the time Thea was 5 years old she had gotten a taste of fame after playing the role of Munchkin #7 in her local community theatre's production of The Wizard of Oz. From the day she first stepped foot on stage and heard the crowd roar at the sight of cute little munchkin children waving, she wanted to chase that feeling of fame forever.
Mr and Mrs Carter spent long days working at an Accounting Firm in downtown London. Due to the long hours that her parents spent at the firm they hired a live-in Nanny to accompany Thea during the hours outside of school. Up until her admittance to Hogwarts, Thea spent a majority of her free time hanging out with her Nanny and performing one man shows in the living room.
While she believes that she is perfect at everything, Thea lacks skill in many areas. Including her grades and singing. Because she is dead set on the idea that she will have a magical breakthrough in the West End, Thea never really focused on her studies all that much. Preferring to spend her time practicing her singing and performance skills.
Despite her parents' insistence that she focus just a tad bit harder on her studies, Thea continued to ignore their wishes and instead tried to build her hobbies. The Stairwell in her parents' flat soon became a performance zone for her to loudly belt out songs off her fathers old radio. What her parents had assumed would be a small phase lasted until shortly after Thea turned 9 years old. It was at this point that her parents realized Thea’s passion wasn’t going to go away. They decided to give her a choice; start taking her studies more seriously or get sent to boarding school. Naturally, Thea realized that if she was shipped off to the boarding school her parents had attended in their youth, she would be stripped of her chances to be creative. So she chose to focus on her school.
With some help from her nanny, Thea started to improve on her grades and discover new hobbies she enjoyed. Including colouring, Astrology, cooking, and going for long walks while she yapped about the latest episode of her favourite tv show.
Despite having a comfortable if not almost perfect life, Thea found it utterly boring and felt deeply out of place. To combat this, she would often create stories up in her head to tell to her classmates. After learning about Astrology, Thea quickly became very interested in it and realized she could use it to her advantage. In between classes at school, Thea could be found telling the other children what their “future” would hold in exchange for the desserts from their lunches.
First Instance of magic Thea had come home from school on a crisp fall afternoon shortly after her 10th birthday to find her parents sitting at the kitchen table. Their faces were not happy and a chair had been left waiting for her on the other side of the table.
“Please Theadora, sit down.” Her mother said. It was never good news when her parents used her full name. Thea dropped her schoolbag by the door and sat down.
“Where is Stacey?” She asked, looking around for her beloved Nanny that her parents still insisted on having. Her father shifted his gaze quickly to the door before returning to study Thea’s face carefully.
“We gave her the night off. I think its time that we had a family meeting.”
“Geez Dad, chill out a bit” Thea rolled her eyes and pushed the chair onto its back legs.
“Please! Sit still.” Her mother’s tone was gentle, but Thea knew her mother was frustrated.
“We got a call from your school today.” Her father leaned forward a bit, his attempt at looking intimidating failed and Thea had to try to hold back a smile. What had she done this time? All her homework had been submitted and her grades were actually pretty good.
“We know you love to tell stories. But today you went too far.” Her mother set her hand out on the table. “Please give us your tarot cards”
Thea’s eyes shot up to meet her mother’s steady gaze. “W-what?!? Why?”
“We know that we have been rather busy at the firm and haven't been spending as much family time together. But that doesn’t give you any reason to act out.” Her father nodded along with what his wife was saying. A quiet signal that he was only going so long with what she was saying.
“Today your school called and told us that they had to explain to a parent that your little stories are just fun and games after Peter M went home to his Mums crying that they were going to move to a different country because he chews too loudly.” Her parents looked at each other for a quick glance. “Apparently, you told him that, and then furthered this lie by telling him that if he gave you a week of his dessert you could spare him?” her mother’s voice rose an octave as she finished the sentence.
“We love that you are trying to be an entrepreneur, but you can’t lie to people. Until you have matured enough to apologise to Peter M and stopped telling these stories. Your father and I have agreed that you no longer get to bring your cards to school.” Her father nodded again.
White hot rage filled Thea and for a moment all she could hear was the roar of her heart rushing in her ears. “NO!” she screamed, her chair clattered down behind her as she stood up.
“THEY ARE MY CARDS!” Her father stood up calmly, her parents never got mad at her when she did bad things, and they certainly never yelled at her for having emotions. They were strong believers in natural consequences and allowing children to regulate their own emotions in a safe environment. However, when they did step in it was often in the manner of having a family meeting, laying out the rules and trying to teach from the mistakes.
Thea was past listening at this point and went to grab her school bag.
“Thea hunny, we thought maybe we’d go for a drive tonight.” Her father said as she stormed off. “Y’know, more family time.”
“JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!” she screamed back at him. “I DON'T WANT A DAMN CAR RIDE!” As she yelled, her parents just stood by the table, it enraged her that there was no response to this outburst of emotions she was displaying. One hand holding the backpack, the other clenched tightly, Thea clenched her hands angrily. “JUST. LEAVE. ME. ALONE!” As she yelled this, the chair she had been sitting on only a minute prior suddenly flew from where it was sitting into the wall nearby. Her parents both stared at it, shock written across their faces. Thea on the other hand had no idea anything had happened because by this point she was already running towards her room to pout.
