Physical Description: Niki-Pakusu Kurosawa has a sharp, intense face that tends to stick in your memory, which is amusing because she spends most of her time trying to blend into the scenery. She stands at 4'8"—average for an eleven-year-old—but she walks with a gliding, ghost-like step and a guarded posture, always looking like she's bracing herself for a blow to land. Her straight, light brown hair has never seen a professional haircut because she can't afford that luxury. Her guardian just hacks at it and pulls it back into a tight, practical man bun, leaving a long fringe that hangs low enough to hide her eyebrow scar completely. She wears a pair of second-hand glasses with thin steel frames that constantly slide down her nose whenever she studying over a textbook. The most noticeable feature on her face is a jagged scar cutting through her left eyebrow. It's a permanent reminder of a nasty dark cutting curse from her dad's basilisk-core wand, the kind of deep magical damage that basic healing spells aren't able to fix. All her clothes are oversized hand-me-downs from Japanese charity bins or thrift markets, looking worn out.She still keeps them scrubbed clean and as neat as possible, even if she looks poor to anyone passing by. Deep in her pockets, she keeps two broken pieces of heirloom wands—one cherry wood fragment from her mother’s family, and a splinter of a Veela hair wand from her father's side. She holds onto them like a lifeline.

Mental Description: Niki is incredibly quiet, kept to herself, and terrified of drawing any attention to herself from students or teachers. Her self-esteem is practically nonexistent; she carries so much weight from her childhood that she feels unworthy of being happy, which drives her to hide her real thoughts away where no one can touch them. She’s built a massive emotional wall, keeping her facial expressions stoic and unreadable to mask the intense, chronic situational anxiety constantly churning inside of her. Her anxiety manifests as an overactive nervous system; she is highly hyper-vigilant, easily startled by loud noises, and constantly scans her environment for potential threats. When things get too overwhelming for her and her mind starts to spin with panicked thoughts, she experiences physical symptoms like a racing heart and a shortness of breath. To cope, she relies on grounding techniques, she unconsciously presses her fingernails deep into her palms or pinches her thin arms. This physical sensation acts as a sensory anchor, shocking her back to reality and interrupting her anxious thoughts, leaving bruises but never breaking her delicate, pale skin. Having recently moved to the UK, her English is rough and broken up by a heavy Japanese accent and a lot of grammar slips. The name "Niki" is incredibly sacred to her—it was the private nickname her mother used for her. If anyone else tries to call her that, the sudden emotional trigger causes her to completely freeze up and shut down as a defense mechanism. To manage her bottled-up energy, she throws her focus into her school studies and a secret love of Quidditch, she practices on her hand made flying setup on her guardian's old kitchen mop whenever nobody is looking. She just wants to find a real purpose while she's away from home.

Biography: Growing up in a small, isolated wizarding village near Hiroshima, Niki learned fast that magic could easily be a prison. Her dad, a ruthless Greek pure-blood wizard, ran their house with a strict, hyper-controlling authority, hammering his beliefs into Niki and her Japanese half-blood mother. He kept the household in a constant state of walking-on-eggshells tension, using sharp, cutting words and unpredictable outbursts to maintain total control over the family. But the heaviest weight Niki carries is what happened to Aiko. Aiko was a Muggle-born girl and Niki’s only actual friend, but local dark wizards snatched her away. Being young and helpless to stop, it left Niki with a brutal sense of guilt that still keeps her awake at night. Desperate to get her daughter away from their environment, Niki’s mother secretly snuck her onto a beat up magical carriage heading for England, choosing to stay behind and face the family consequences alone. Niki landed in Britain with nothing but the dirty clothes she was wearing. A poor muggle-born Japanese witch named Hana, who is fighting her own quiet battle against a nasty blood curse, took her in. To pay for her secondhand Hogwarts textbooks, Niki scrubs the floors at the Leaky Cauldron late at night. When the pub is empty, she practices balancing on an old household broom, dreaming of a place where she actually belongs.

First Instance of Magic (FIOM): although she grew up around magic, her own power remained tightly locked away until after she escaped to the UK to start over. Her magic first showed up at age of eleven, sparked by the lingering, deeply rooted fears from her childhood. Shortly after moving to London, England, Niki was helping Hana clean the Leaky Cauldron late at night. As she sat freezing in a dark corner of the kitchen, her anxiety flared up, causing her to hyper-ventilate as she tried her absolute hardest to stifle her loud, panicked breathing so she wouldn't disturb anyone. In her trembling panic, her elbow clipped a heavy ceramic tea jar on the counter. As it dropped toward the stone floor, Niki squeezed her waterway mono-lids shut, her mind instantly flashed back to the harsh reactions she used to face for making mistakes, waiting for the massive smash that would bring trouble down on her. Instead of a crash, a sudden, quiet burst of accidental, wandless magic rushed right from her shaking hands. It caught the jar mid-air, barely two inches off the ground. It hovered there safely for a few seconds before landing softly onto the moth infested rug without a single scratch. Because this first emotional surge of magic happened right here in London, the Quill of Acceptance immediately detected it and she was marked down in Hogwarts' Book of Admittance.
